What is elite shungite nuggets?

An elite nugget of elite shungite is the rarest mineral of the Precambrian period. It is more than two billion years old, this information is based on its many years of research by scientists in Karelia, Russia. It consists of 98% unique amorphous carbon, which contains nanomolecules of fullerenes c60 and c70.

In the Karelian Republic there is a unique Institute of Geology (Institut Geologii Karnts Ran), which has an entire shungite department for the study of shungite. Based on research at this scientific institute, we obtained a chemical and geological analysis of our samples of elite shungite nuggets.

Deposit of elite shungite

The deposit of elite shungite nuggets is located in only one place on Earth, in Russia, the Republic of Karelia, Medvezhyegorsky district, Shunga village. The deposit is an abandoned and mined-out adit with shungite veins, which are located underground at different depths.

Unfortunately, this deposit is not currently active, since the most accessible layers of rock were already excavated in the period from the thirties of the twentieth century to the nineties. The status of the deposit of elite shungite nuggets is now defined as protected. However, some amateurs, including us, had geological expeditions to this adit in order to search for big pieces of elite shungite.

Pyrite and quartz in rock from Karelia

Due to the fact that an elite shungite nugget is a very ancient rock, there may be traces of pyrite and quartz on its surface. Yellowish or rusty pyrite films can cover specimens of this silvery mineral. They are not dangerous, but are simply oxidized pyrite.

In turn, quartz can also be found on its surface. Please don’t be alarmed, this is a normal phenomenon, it’s just that over billions of years these two minerals have had some contact with it.

Authenticity of elite shungite

Please note that on the Internet there are a huge number of fake advertisements where various fakes are presented as elite shungite. These could be, for example, anthracites, which are often passed off as some kind of find from Colombia.

Our store comes from Karelia and we have only genuine samples of elite shungite nuggets, which are obtained from the only deposit in Shunga. We have chemically tested the samples and guarantee their authenticity.

In addition, we would like to draw your attention to the fact that to verify the authenticity of a mineral, you can test its electrical conductivity. If you do this, for example, with a multimeter, you will see that a real elite shungite nugget has high electrical conductivity. It will be expressed in zero resistance to electric current, or its resistance will tend to zero (have near-zero values).
