Shungite stone Type 2 – Petrovsky
Petrovsky is the second type of Shungite rock. It is a dark gray mineral that has a matte, non-reflective surface. The carbon content is about 60-70%. But you will not always get type 2 if you want to buy Petrovsky shungite.
Perhaps this is a matter of confusion, or even outright deception. In fact, “Petrovsky shungite” is just a marketing name.
The Russian stone type 2 differs from the other two most well-known types of first and third in the amount of special amorphous carbon. In turn, which contains unique fullerenes.
Also, geologists have proven that stone type 2 has an age of more than 2 billion years. And was first found from the village of Shunga, in the same deposit where deposits of type 1 silver elite stone were found.
What is type 2?
Petrovsky shungite is a fictitious term, marketing, which often misleads people. For example, we often see that there are unscrupulous sellers on the Internet. Here they sell bracelets, pyramids, pendants. We can see that these products are made of classic black stone type 3. But they sell them under the name “Petrovsky Shungite”.
The fact is that they do not make beads or any products industrially from Petrovsky shungite (if they mean type 2). For the reason that, stone type 2 is not subject to industrial extraction. Because his small field in the village of Shunga is closed and practically depleted.
In addition, we cannot make anything from elite silver stone type 1. Because of its rarity and fragility. Except when we drill or tie pieces of this mineral for pendants. Moreover, there is no such mineral “Petrovsky” in nature.
Thus, in Karelia there is only type 2 (or Petrovsky shungite with a carbon content of 35-70%). Or rock type 1, or elite silver stone (with a carbon content of more than 95%). There is also classic (regular) black stone (type 3) with a carbon content of 20-35% and others.
What is the difference between type 3 and type 1?
You ask, then what is the difference between type 1, type 2 and type 3 of the Russian rock? The fact is that elite type always means stones with a carbon content of at least 95%, it is type 1. In addition, it has an outer shiny surface that reflects light in such a way that it looks like silver. Read more about silver Russian stone type 1 in this article.
Now we turn to the second type – Petrovsky Shungite of the Russian rock with a lower carbon content of 35-70%. Also, it does not shine, it is matte and if it has a slight shine, then it is dull. The lower the carbon content, the dimmer the rock, it is dark gray and matte.
And there is also type 3 (for example, Zazhoginsky with a carbon content of about 30%). It is black color, it does not shine by itself and the stone is matte. You can see the difference in more detail in our article on the types of the russian rocks.
Do we make products from Petrovsky shungite?
Actually, in the production of in Karelia, we do not process Petrovsky shungite. We and any other production facilities cannot process it on an industrial scale and make products from it.
That is, we cannot do this because of the physicochemical properties of the stone type 2. After all, it cannot be processed. In addition, we know that the reserves of the stone type 2 are very small, and their extraction is prohibited.
However, we make geometric products in our factory only from black regular stone of the 3rd type. Since it lends itself to processing and is officially mined in Karelia. In addition, we also do not make anything from type 1 elite stone except for pendants.
We make similar necklaces from raw unprocessed pieces. These pendants have a natural geometric shape and have not been subjected to any processing. We only make a hole in the mineral to install a fastening for a lace or chain. This section presents pendants of type 1 silver stone.
Therefore, direct fakes of the Petrovsky shungite can be found on the Internet. But in our store we do geological research and give a guarantee of the authenticity of our samples, provided with certificates.
The use of petrovsky shungite
Since the mineral composition of the Russian rocks and their special structures state are diverse. Than the practical use of stones is possible in a wide variety of areas.
For example, in the chemical industry and in metallurgy, in the construction of special structures for shielding dangerous electromagnetic waves. And also for water purification from organic and inorganic substances, heavy metals and pathogenic organisms.
Petrovsky shungite as big size samples is ideal for a collection. It will also serve as a powerful crystal to protect against electromagnetic waves.
