What is a Shungite Sphere?

A Shungite sphere is a polished or unpolished and rounded rock carved from Russian black stone, a rare carbon-based mineral found predominantly in the Karelia region of Russia. The Russian rock, renowned for its high carbon content (from 32 to 98%), is unique in its composition and has garnered attention for its potential healing and protective properties.

Shungite spheres come in various sizes, typically ranging from small, handheld versions to larger display pieces. The process of shaping these spheres involves skilled artisans carving, smoothing, and polishing raw black stone material into a perfectly round, polished orb.

How it’s made?

Shungite spheres, often admired for their sheer beauty and symbolic meaning, are more than just geological marvels; they are testaments to human craftsmanship and artistic dedication. Crafting a stone sphere is a meticulous process that requires skill, patience, and a profound appreciation for the natural world.

Shungite spheres in our store are made from a solid piece of real raw Russian rock. The ancient Chinese teachings of Feng Shui define the shape of the sphere as a peace, eternity, self-sufficient power over the universe, power and Imperial dignity. In other words, each shape has its own energy.

Steps in Crafting Russian Stone Spheres:

  1. Initial Shaping: The artisan starts by roughly shaping the stone using hand chisels, hammers, or saws. This step establishes the basic form of the sphere.
  2. Rough Grinding: Coarse abrasives like diamond-coated wheels are used to grind the rough stone into a near-spherical shape. This stage is time-consuming and requires precision to ensure uniformity.
  3. Fine Grinding: Smoother grinding wheels with progressively finer abrasives refine the shungite sphere’s surface, eliminating any irregularities. Water may be used to minimize heat and friction.
  4. Polishing: Polishing compounds and cloth or felt wheels bring out the stone’s luster and reveal its natural beauty. This step can involve multiple rounds of polishing to achieve the desired sheen. Also, this surface may be unpolished. Such a surface does not have a mirror shine, but it looks natural.
  5. Final Inspection: The finished stone sphere is carefully inspected for any imperfections. Artisans take pride in creating flawless spheres that showcase the stone’s unique characteristics.

Polished and Unpolished Surface

Shungite spheres have two types of surface. Firstly, it’s a polished surface. Secondly, it’s unpolished surface.

Polished

The polished surface is smooth and reflects light. Also, this surface has a rich deep color. This is made possible by the complex process of refraction and reflection of light waves inside the black stone as well as on its surface.

Unpolished

The unpolished surface is rough to the touch and does not reflect light. This surface looks natural. On there clearly visible inclusion of pyrite and Quartzite. Pyrite has a Golden color. Quartzite has a whitish color.  These two minerals are an integral part of the authentic Russian stone. Thirdly, and most importantly, the surface does not affect the ability of the Russian rock.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Shungite spheres represent a harmonious fusion of natural beauty, symbolic significance, and metaphysical potential. Beyond their aesthetic appeal, they are revered for their mystical qualities, including EMF protection, purification, grounding, and meditation enhancement.

Whether used as decorative pieces or as tools for personal growth and well-being, Shungite spheres hold a special place in the hearts of those seeking a deeper connection to the energies of the Earth and Feng Shui.
