What is elite shungite?

Shungite elite is one of the rarest minerals on earth. This rare mineral contains C60 fullerenes in its chemical composition. It is a 98% carbon of unique form that is found nowhere else in nature. Learn more about it here.

Why is this mineral so rare?

Currently, the mine of this mineral is completely exhausted. This happened in 1980 at the time when the Soviet Union existed. Now there are only crumbs and very small veins. It is extremely rare to find samples of shungite elite of large size. These samples are really of great value because to find such a sample is a great success.
Each year the mine eroded by melt water, with the result that at any moment the mine could collapse. In addition, every year it becomes more difficult to find the remains of elite shungite. As a result, this rare mineral may disappear from nature completely in the near future. Currently, this is the only place on earth where this unique mineral was found.

There are deposits of this mineral in only one place – in Karelia, Russia. There are no similar deposits of shungite anywhere on Earth. And if someone claims that somewhere else on Earth, for example, in Colombia, he found elite shungite, then this is a lie. Since fake specimens do not have a confirmed chemical composition, and also do not have those physical characteristics that are inherent only in elite shungite.
